The Elegant Occasion

About The Elegant Occasion and Roberta Lombardi

My career has spanned over 20 years as a corporate event planner.  Working with companies such as Sprint, Echlin and World Travel, I planned meetings, incentive programs and theme parties for countless corporations.  I had the great fortune to work with and learn from the most skilled and revered hotel managers, chefs and set designers from the finest hotels, resorts and restaurants in the United States and Europe.

In 2002, I left the corporate world to begin a new chapter in my life, raising a family.  My childhood memories of  extended family gathering for Sunday dinners, summer barbeques, holiday celebrations and dinner parties inspired me to recreate this for my children.  Over the years I have become passionate about cooking, baking and opening my home to family and friends.  I want my children to have a mosaic of memories from their childhood, as I do from mine.

Whether it was a small or large gathering, formal or informal, my passion for food and entertaining were enhanced by my event planning skills.  I received numerous requests from my friends to help them organize their own social celebrations because to them, my gatherings were seamless, and I was able to enjoy the party as much as my guests.

I began to form a plan, and in 2010 I launched The Elegant Occasion, creating a line of signature hors’ doeuvres and desserts offered in select shops along the Connecticut Shoreline or custom ordered.  My product line was extremely well received and my signature desserts won two awards in the People’s Choice Category of The American Red Cross Chocolate to the Rescue Competition.

However, the requests kept coming for guidance on entertaining, this time not just from friends, but from clients, associations, fundraising committees and acquaintances.  With such demand, in 2011 I created The Elegant Occasion Entertainment Television Show.  The show aired on cable access stations in 30 Connecticut towns.  In addition, I began making regular appearances on Connecticut Style and Good Morning Connecticut on News 8.  Within the show, I not only taught viewers how to make delicious meals, but I offered suggestions and tips on setting themes, getting organized, menu planning and décor.

The show gained a lot of recognition, and now I am launching the latest series of shows which can be viewed directly from The Elegant Occasion website. In addition, you will have the opportunity to download the recipes for each show, along with suggested wine pairings, and a detailed time-line of how to prepare the meal in advance. I will even share information on where to purchase the table linens, china and decorative touches I use in each show, so that you can turn any gathering into an elegant occasion.
